Students had a wonderful time visiting Chula Vista's Living Coast Museum. The students learned about animal adaptations, took a nature walk, learned how to spot animals with binoculars, touched sting rays, and learned how they can be kind to the planet. In February, the fabulous Diane Espinosa, paid a visit to our classroom for another guided art lesson. This lesson had the students mixing paint colors, and using non-traditional tools, to create unique art pieces. In March, we studied shapes! We did a lot of hands-on exploration using manipulatives, and even did a little snacking, as well. December was a full and busy month for us. We studied Holidays Around the World, including: Las Posadas, Diwali, Kwanzaa, Chinese New Year, and Hanukkah. We made, and ate, a faux Rosca de Reyes, ate long noodles for good luck, and learned how to play the dreidel game. We even made an edible dreidel! We also presented our own family traditions to the class. The kids loved this unit! Max 105.7 visited our classroom and donated a $150 Visa gift card to our classroom. Each students received a goodie bag from Mission Federal Credit Union, as well. The kids were so excited, and the station played a small sound bite from their visit, on the radio! The money was well spent on books for our classroom library! Here are some pictures from their visit: Finally, just wanted to give you a glimpse into how your child begins every morning in Room 29! We are using our noodles, and moving our bodies, with GoNoodle.com ! I blinked, and we are already almost 3 weeks away from the end of this year. My intentions were to post regularly on this blog, with all the happenings of our busy classroom. But, somehow the year got away from me. I apologize for that, and will do my best to get as many events up before the end of the year. Let's start from where we left off... Halloween! I AM SO EXCITED FOR OUR CLASSROOM BECAUSE WE JUST RECEIVED 66 FREE BOOKS FROM SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUBS! WE HAD 8 FAMILIES ORDER FROM OUR FIRST CATALOG, AND WE EARNED OVER 5,000 BONUS POINTS! I USED THOSE POINTS TO PICK BOOKS THAT I THOUGHT THE STUDENTS WOULD LIKE, OR THAT SUPPORTED OUR LITERACY STUDIES THIS YEAR. SOME OF THE TOPICS I ORDERED INCLUDE ANIMALS, FAMOUS AMERICANS BIOGRAPHIES, AND FAIRY TALES,

Our next award winners will be chosen in November! Mrs. Rios This year we are extremely fortunate to have Diane Espinosa giving art lessons to our class. Mrs. Espinosa taught for 35 years (most of them at 2nd grade), and retired a few years ago. She is an amazing teacher, colleague, and friend. We miss her so much. But, thankfully our class will receive an art lesson from her about every two weeks. We have already had 2 lessons, and the kids are loving it! So far, we have learned about primary and secondary colors, and a painting technique called "stippling" (pop quiz!...ask your child about it) If you see Mrs. Espinosa in the hallways, make sure you thank her for sharing her time, and talent, with Room 29! Here are some pictures from our lessons. Don't see your child below? Please send in your Permission to Photograph/Video paper (included in the thick white packet sent home about 2 weeks ago, or picked up at Back to School Night) |
